My name is Julia Hayes. I am a tattooer at Moonrise Tattoo Collective, a private studio in Brooklyn, New York which I share with my studiomate Kat Noir.
About the Studio
We are dedicated to creating a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable experience in our little studio. We have experience tattooing all skin tones and body types, and are happy to work with each individual to address any concerns or questions about the tattooing process! Beyond standard tattoo appointments we are also able to provide:
small color tests for darker skin tones (free of charge if you’re getting another tattoo)
sliding scale pricing on covering mastectomy scars, top surgery scars, and self harm scars.
If you are interested in learning more, please mention this in your email!
We love ALL bodies!
My work is influenced by scientific illustration, printmaking, folk art, and the natural environment of my childhood - a rural, coastal area of Northern California. I've been living in New York since 2010, but I still feel most at home amongst the dirt and the sea, and my work is a reflection of my roots. I specialize in illustrative blackwork, primarily natural themes - plants, animals, humans, science and magic. I've been making art for as long as I can remember. After working for years in the restaurant industry, ceramics, and illustration, tattooing was a clear next step for me, and it feels like a very organic transition. I've been tattooing for 3 years, and I'm incredibly thankful that I get to learn and grow in this craft for the rest of my life. I believe tattooing can be an incredibly healing process, both in the act of applying the tattoo, and in the reclamation and ownership of one’s body via adornment. Tattooing has helped me to love the vessel I reside in and I hope to share that empowerment with others.
